Landscape photography section - introduction
Knowing the landscape, understanding and anticipating the light are part of my preparation for taking a landscape photograph. When I set out for a walk I will always ask myself, “Where do I want to be?” The answer is influenced by the season, the weather, the time of day, the state of the tide and, most importantly, my intimate knowledge of Gower itself. Of course, time, tide and nature wait for no-one. Being in just the right place at just the right time is what, in the world of photography, results in a brilliant rather than a standard picture.

There is nothing more satisfying and magical than empathising with the natural world – for example, reading the weather to be on location to watch a rainbow unfold across the sky, the sky ignite at sunset or to witness the glory of the sun rising over a vale of low-lying mist. Although Mother Nature does not always oblige, it is a pleasure to be there, assessing the situation and the best time at which to take that picture.

I absorb, observe and capture in my landscape photography the ever-changing face of Gower - year in and year out with the progress of the seasons; day in and day out with the rise and fall of the tides; from dawn until dusk with ever-changing colour and quality of the light
